As the computer guy in my office, I hear a lot of the urban-legend-style rumors (computer-related and otherwise) floating around and it's nice to have an authoritative source to go for the purpose of shooting down the false ones. Just recently in my home e-mail, I got a story of people going to movies and finding needles contaminated with HIV, hepatitis, or some other dreaded disease in the seats. The people unknowingly sit on the needles, and by the time they realize what's happened, they've been infected. This story has apparently been making the rounds among military personnel overseas, prefaced with taglines like, "Do you really want to go home?" It certainly sounds like a hoax to me, but I was wondering if you've heard about this one. I would appreciate any information you may have about this. If at all possible, please send any replies to my *home* e-mail address, furnished below. Thank you... Geoff Wrigg gwrigg@mocc.com (Home e-mail) data1@initco.net (Work e-mail)
