It sounds like a legend to me, but not one that I've heard before. According to the speaker, a friend of his working at Norfolk NWS heard about a freak accident. Supposedly, a mechanic was working in the bomb bay of an airplane and was wearing soundproof ear guards. Another mechanic, unaware of the first guy's position, closed the doors of the bomb bay, cutting the first mechanic in half. The first mechanic (or what was left of him) was still alive, but was told by "them" that there was nothing they could do for him and that if the doors were opened, his entrails would spill out and he would die. Face with impending doom, the mechanic sent for his family so that they could say "goodbye" to one another before the end. Apparently, they drove to the flightline, said goodbye, and then left before the doors were opened. When telling this story to a friend, I was told that a similar story was contained in a book she thought was titled "Aztec." In the story, a man is cut in two by a large rock, nothing can be done, his family is called, etc. What do you think? Todd Perkins
